Are you looking to save on your energy bills while contributing to a more sustainable future? Ontario has some enticing energy rebates to help you do just that. Here’s an overview of what’s available as of January 2023.
Ontario’s Energy Rebates
If you live in Ontario, you can apply for the Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+). The HER+ combines incentives offered by Enbridge Gas with those offered by Natural Resources Canada through the Canada Greener Homes Grant. By applying for HER+, residents of Ontario can apply for both sets of rebates through one application process.
Through this partnership, Ontarians can benefit from up to $10,000 in rebates for eligible home energy retrofits. You may also qualify for $600 towards the cost of your EnerGuide home evaluation.
What Rebates Are Available Through HER+?
In January of 2023, the program was revised to provide rebates for heat pumps and to allow more rebates for insulation and other energy-saving upgrades. Here’s an overview of some of the home upgrade rebates available to Ontarians under HER+:
Interior space heating. Under the HER+ program, Enbridge customers could receive rebates for installing a new air source heat pump. These systems absorb heat from outdoor air and move it into your home. In addition to the financial support from Enbridge Gas and the federal government, you stand to see significant savings on your energy bills.
Water heaters. The HER+ program offers rebates for installing a new heat pump water heater (HPWH). Like the heat pumps used for space heating, these systems draw on existing heat rather than using combustion to generate heat from scratch, resulting in energy savings for you.
Thermostats. If you replace your manual thermostat with a programmable thermostat, you could receive a $50 rebate. If you go from a manual thermostat to a smart thermostat, you could qualify for as much as $125.
Other upgrades. The HER+ program also provides financial incentives for you to invest in home insulation, air sealing, renewable energy solutions, and ENERGY STAR® windows and doors.
The Canada Greener Homes Grant also offers interest-free financing to help you complete some more major retrofits. You could take out an interest-free loan from $5,000 to $40,000 with a repayment term of 10 years to help you realize the energy upgrades you need.
